It is the master backup to your wallet: anyone who sees it could access your assets. Ledger will never ask you to share it online, enter it into an app, or send it to support.
Learn the essentials ↓Once your device is ready, use Ledger Wallet to add accounts and see supported assets. When you receive crypto, verify the address on your Ledger screen. When sending, check the recipient and details on the device before approving. Start with a small test transaction if you are learning a new process.

Self-custody puts you in control—and makes a few habits especially important. Your recovery phrase should stay offline and private. Keep your PIN to yourself, and treat unexpected messages, links, and offers with caution. Scammers may imitate brands or create urgency to persuade you to reveal sensitive information.
Before confirming a transaction, review its details on your Ledger device screen. The screen provides an independent check of what you are approving. If anything looks unfamiliar, stop and investigate through official Ledger help resources. Never approve a transaction you do not understand.
